Here, the afterlife is made up of two primary locations: the “Good Place” and the “Bad Place” and all of humanity ends up in either one or the other based on a point system that calculates each person's overall moral conduct in life. The Good Place is reserved for only those with the highest scores, where they will enjoy all eternity in bliss, and everyone else goes to the Bad Place, where they are tortured for all eternity.
Enter Eleanor Shellstrop, who finds herself in the Good Place and is welcomed by Michael, the neighborhood’s architect, and Janet, an all-knowing assistant who is there to fulfil the residents’ every wish. There's only one problem: Eleanor knows she doesn’t belong here. Determined to earn her place regardless, she enlists the help of her soul-mate Chidi, along with her neighbors Tahani and Jianyu, to learn how to become a better person than she was on Earth.
